PPF - 12th May 2022 - PPF and Mills & Reeve Launch new Cryptocurrency Education for Players

May 12th 2022

The Professional Players Federation (PPF) and Sports law specialists Mills & Reeve have teamed up to create two new cryptocurrency e-Learning resources specifically targeted at sportspeople.

The two modules have been designed to improve players’ understanding of cryptocurrency and NFTs. They highlight some of the key risks that players need to be aware of and answers specific questions received from players and their associations. The modules can be used to provide online education to individuals with an interest in this area or be used within wider face-to-face group training sessions.

Richard Bryan, Player Welfare Director at the Rugby Players Association, said:

“Cryptocurrency is an area that our players have an increasing interest in and so this education will really help us inform our members and highlight some of the risks involved. It answers some of the questions players may have and is another piece of great educational support provided by the Professional Players Federation for its members.”

Mills & Reeve Principal Associate Tiran Gunawardena, who presents the modules, said:

“We’ve seen an explosion of interest in cryptocurrency and NFTs in the sports industry over the last year or so. Whilst it does have some exciting potential for the future, there are lots of risks that athletes should be aware of before getting involved in this space. Education is key, and we’re delighted to be able to support the Professional Players Federation in educating its members about this new technology.”
